Global Design Project 111 #GDP111

The theme of the Global Design Project Challenge #GDP111 this week is the theme of family time - what makes you think of time with family?

This is my entry:

You may well ask how on earth this reminds me of family.  Stay with me here - this is my story.

In our back yard, my husband planted a flowering cherry tree 13 years ago.  It was a spindly little thing, but he convinced me it would grow and be our shade in the heat of summer.  Go figure, he was right!  So we now have this amazing tree that provides shelter when we need it to, and we have a hammock set up under it, and when it is in flower, it is simply magnificent.

On my card, the piece of Old Olive Colour Theory Designer Series Paper is in place of the actual flowering cherry tree. The flowers need no translation, and the chair is my  version of the hammock.

On a beautiful spring day, I feel at peace in the garden when it all comes together, hence my card.

The other thing about my family is that we are far from perfect...like all families we get grumpy with each other, and we rattle each others' cages. This card also has a couple of mistakes on it which I'm not going to point out, but if you do note them, know that they are also what reminds me about our family on this card.

I used Thick Whisper White for the card base, then Old Olive cardstock for the mat, then regular Whisper White for the card front. The flowers were stamped in Berry Burst, and I coloured the stamens of the flowers with the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend. The sentiment and scaffolding of the chair are in Basic Black, and we won't talk about the colour of the seat part of the chair! I used the SNAIL as my adhesive throughout the whole card

Today I try the Winter Wonder Embossing Folder

I really wanted to use my new Embossing Folder today - I've had it for a while, and it's time I broke the seal and put it to good use.

So I did!

I CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) this card from Amy Koenders - not only is it a gorgeous card, but it was quick and easy to make as well!

I couldn't get the Year of Cheer Speciality Washi Tape to photograph very well, however it does have a lovely shine and adds a lovely depth of colour.

I used the embossing folder off centre, as I wanted to leave room for the washi tape. After I had put the washi on, I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink. The sentiment is one of the ones from the Star of Light stamp set.

I put a Rhinestone jewel in the centre of the embossing, and this finished off my card.  Inside I stamped 'Merry Christmas', also from the Star of Light stamp set.

There you have it.  Quick, easy and effective.

No creating for me today!

I had a busy day today, tidying the house after having guests (Andrew's sister and her 5 year old twins) stay for the last 6 weeks, and lots of family get togethers at our house over the last week.

Keeping a generally tidy home is something I strive for, however I don't often get there!  I'm grateful my family of males (husband and 2 boys aged 11 and 8) don't mind the chaos that sometimes happens.  I've almost managed to convince myself that it's ok to have the family dressing themselves out of the clean washing basket, on those days I don't get it all folded and put away. Not quite, but almost.

So, what did I do this evening?

I addressed what felt like 100 envelopes (would have been closer to 30), popped the new Stampin' Blends brochure in them all, stamped and sealed, ready to be posted tomorrow.

If you have a feeling I don't have your address, and you'd like to me to send you one, just send me an email at stamps.andrea@gmail.com and I'll send you one out.  Please only if you don't have a demonstrator already - if you do, ask them to send you one.

One of the perks of being a demonstrator (and there are a few perks 😉) is that you can join a Facebook page for demonstrators.  There are 22,000 demonstrators on this page. From this I find I get a really good gauge for how products are received. And these Stampin' Blends have been received really well - everyone seems to really love them, from the experienced person through to those who have never picked up an alcohol based marker before. All are finding them easy to use, and all are finding the colour combos fantastic.

They are able to be ordered from 1 November. Stampin' Up! aren't predicting any supply issues, however if you really want them soon, I advise putting your order in straight away.

If you'd like to purchase anything else from my online shop (and you live in New Zealand), please click here

Take care, and I hope the week treats you well (and gently)

3" x 3" Christmas Cards

3" x 3" Christmas cards - there are endless varieties to what you can do with these.  I've made up one example here, using an Annual Catalogue Christmas set.  This was easily my favourite Christmas bundle from the Holiday's catalogue last year.  I was thrilled to see it in the Annual Catalogue!

I started with a Whisper White card, measuring 3" x 3".  I then cut a mat out of Real Red Cardstock that was 2 7/8" x 2 7/8", then the card front out of Whisper White that was 2 3/4" x 2 3/4".

I stamped the star pattern (from the Star of Light stamp set) in Real Red ink, stamped off once. I then stamped the sentiment (Teeny Tiny Sentiments) in Basic Black.

Next I cut out the star, done in Red Glimmer Paper, and I used the Starlight Thinlits Dies. I found I got the best result if I passed the die through the Big Shot 4 times. This star was not the easiest to get out of the die, so I employed my Big Shot Die Brush.  This little gizmo saves heaps of time, and lets you get the star out with the least fuss.

I then placed an 'artfully arranged' piece of Gold Metallic Thread behind the star.  I found this a little difficult to place, but I used the SNAIL adhesive to apply adhesive to the back of the star, then I used that to adhere the thread in place. Then I adhered the layers to the card base, and I was done.

I then put another card front on top of one of the new Mini Pizza Boxes - available in the current Holiday Catalogue. I'm going to put 4 cards (all the same) in the box, so people can see what's in the box before opening it.  A lovely gift to give someone, or a lovely wee item to sell at the market.

They are just so cute - 3 x 3 envelopes in Whisper White. They fit nicely in the Mini Pizza Boxes.

Thank you for reading my blog! I'd love if you'd leave me a comment - and let me know if there is anything you'd like to read about in the future.

Global Design Project 110 #GDP110

This is my entry into the Global Design Project Challenge 110.

It was a sketch challenge, this is the sketch that we were given.
If you've never seen a sketch challenge before, the idea is that you use this base to create your own card - you can mix it up a little, but the base of the card should be recognisable as the above card.

Here's what I created:

Clearly I was in a Christmassy mood!

Have I mentioned before that I just l-o-v-e- Christmas?  I love the buildup, I love carols, I love decorations, I love gift buying, I love gift wrapping.  Of course, I love making Christmas cards as well!

The base of this card is in Cherry Cobbler, and the Designer Series Paper is Be Merry.  I used the sentiment from the Snowflake Sentiments stamp set, and I used the Cherry Cobbler Double Stitched Ribbon, as well as a length of Burlap Ribbon. I used the SNAIL adhesive, as well as dimensionals (on the sentiment) and a glue dot under the bow.  I also used my favourite shape die - the Stitched Framelits.  They are so versatile!

A quick note - the Snowflake Sentiments come with some sentiments that are perfect for inside the card as well, so I added some white paper and stamped a sentiment inside, finishing the card off nicely.

If you live in New Zealand and don't already have a demonstrator, I would love to be your demonstrator!  Simply click on any of the pictures below and you will be taken straight to my online shop
