Another classy Year of Cheer Christmas card

This is another card that I've CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) from Pinterest - it was actually in the same post as the one I did last night, so I have no name for this one either, and I can't give credit where credit is defintely due.

This card is still showcasing the Foil Snowflakes, but this time I used a silver one.  You get 12 gold and 12 silver in the pack. They're beautiful and are super simple to add to a project.

I used a New Zealand standard card size, making it out of Tranquil Tide.  I really like the tiny bit of colour visible, I think it works great with the silver on the rest of the card. I made my card front out of Whisper White cardstock.  I adhered a piece of Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper to my card front, then adhered the Foil Snowflake on as well. I used the SNAIL adhesive - this tends to be my go-to adhesive as I find it really easy to use.

Next I stamped the snowflake onto another piece of Whisper White card stock, and cut it out using the Layering Circles Framelit Dies. I popped that in the centre of the Foil Snowflake.  I then stamped the sentiment on the card front (using Basic Black ink), and adhered the card front to the card base.

My final step was to use Silver Metallic Thread to tie a bow to the Year of Cheer Embellishment, then a Glue Dot to adhere that to the front of the card.  Then I was done.

I love the simplicity of this look - I can see myself making 10 or 15 of these really easily, as it's all really easy to put together.  Easy, but it looks good!

Christmas is still on my mind

How are you going with getting everything sorted for Christmas?  I'm trying to get a start on cards, although I know plenty of people are ready well before now.

I've taken a week off in early December, and that's my time to do everything apart from food shopping.  I'll spend a whole day present buying (I always go with a list) and then over the course of the week I'll get everything wrapped, find things that are harder to find, and hopefully I'll have some time for creating!

I found this card on Pinterest, however the person didn't have their name on it, so I can't give credit.  I changed it up just slightly, however it's very similar.

I've used a couple of elements for the first time this evening - let me tell you about them.

The Foil Snowflake is the major element of the card - these are gorgeous, and come in a pack of 24 - 12 silver and 12 gold. They are so easy to use and look great on a card. The other element is a little hard to see on this card, but there is an embellishment that is a stylised cross on the front under the sentiment.  These Year of Cheer embellishments come again in gold and silver, and in a couple of different shapes.  You get 24 embellishments, 6 each of two designs in both colours.

I haven't changed my style at all - this is still a really easy card to make. I used a standard card size in Tranquil Tide, then I cut out the card front slightly smaller in Whisper White card.  I used a piece of the Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper, and adhered that to the card front. After that I placed the Foil Snowflake onto the card, adhered with the SNAIL adhesive. I stamped the sentiment from the Snowflake Sentiment stamp set onto Whisper White cardstock, and used the Layering Circles Thinlits Dies to cut that out. I then adhered this on top of the Foil Snowflake. I then used Gold Metallic Thread to provide some interest underneath the cross embellishment, and I used a Mini Glue Dot to keep this in place..  Once the card front was complete, I adhered that to the base, and the card was finished.

I'm going to go back and make several of these as I can think of a number of people who would enjoy this card!

I tried out an Eclipse card - see my results

This is a new style of card (well, to be fair it's new to me, it might not be new to everyone).  It's easy, but it packs a really big wow!

See what I mean - it's a really simple premis, but effective. This is a standard New Zealand card size, so it fits the standard Stampin' Up! envelope. The four letters don't look crowded, and you can fit three just as easily.  There are so many word options to make so many different cards - Joy, Love, Hope, Baby, Fun, Babe, Bae (if you're a fan of social media you'll know what this is!)...the list goes on.

I started with a Whisper White Thick cardstock, cut a mat piece out of Old Olive cardstock, then a card front in Whisper White (regular). I then decorated the regular piece of Whisper White.  I used the new Blends (Old Olive light and dark, Daffodil Yellow dark and Smokey Slate light) to colour the leaves (tried some different colour blending) and then stamped the branch in Chocolate Chip and the flowers in Berry Burst.  All of these stamps are from the Colourful Seasons stamp set. You can just see it - I then coloured the 'stamens' of the flowers with the dark Daffodil Delight Blend.

Once I had my picture the way I wanted it, I cut out the letters I wanted (using the Large Letters Framelits Dies). I had to take care with this to make sure they were evenly spaced horizontally, but also that they were even vertically (I'm ever so slightly pedantic).

Once they were cut out, I used Foam Adhesive Strips on the back of the letters - this is a great product as it's flexible, allowing you to follow a shape such as an 'O' and it makes things stand out a little more than the Dimensionals do. Attach the layers to the card front (use plenty of adhesive around the cut out letters - you don't want them popping up).

Once all the letters were in place, I adhered the centre of the 'O' back - I didn't use the Foam Adhesive Strips on this, as it needed to look like a part of the card that wasn't popped out.

There you have it - it is easy but it does pack a 'Wow!'.

Global Design Project 111 #GDP111

The theme of the Global Design Project Challenge #GDP111 this week is the theme of family time - what makes you think of time with family?

This is my entry:

You may well ask how on earth this reminds me of family.  Stay with me here - this is my story.

In our back yard, my husband planted a flowering cherry tree 13 years ago.  It was a spindly little thing, but he convinced me it would grow and be our shade in the heat of summer.  Go figure, he was right!  So we now have this amazing tree that provides shelter when we need it to, and we have a hammock set up under it, and when it is in flower, it is simply magnificent.

On my card, the piece of Old Olive Colour Theory Designer Series Paper is in place of the actual flowering cherry tree. The flowers need no translation, and the chair is my  version of the hammock.

On a beautiful spring day, I feel at peace in the garden when it all comes together, hence my card.

The other thing about my family is that we are far from perfect...like all families we get grumpy with each other, and we rattle each others' cages. This card also has a couple of mistakes on it which I'm not going to point out, but if you do note them, know that they are also what reminds me about our family on this card.

I used Thick Whisper White for the card base, then Old Olive cardstock for the mat, then regular Whisper White for the card front. The flowers were stamped in Berry Burst, and I coloured the stamens of the flowers with the Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend. The sentiment and scaffolding of the chair are in Basic Black, and we won't talk about the colour of the seat part of the chair! I used the SNAIL as my adhesive throughout the whole card

Today I try the Winter Wonder Embossing Folder

I really wanted to use my new Embossing Folder today - I've had it for a while, and it's time I broke the seal and put it to good use.

So I did!

I CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) this card from Amy Koenders - not only is it a gorgeous card, but it was quick and easy to make as well!

I couldn't get the Year of Cheer Speciality Washi Tape to photograph very well, however it does have a lovely shine and adds a lovely depth of colour.

I used the embossing folder off centre, as I wanted to leave room for the washi tape. After I had put the washi on, I stamped the sentiment in Night of Navy ink. The sentiment is one of the ones from the Star of Light stamp set.

I put a Rhinestone jewel in the centre of the embossing, and this finished off my card.  Inside I stamped 'Merry Christmas', also from the Star of Light stamp set.

There you have it.  Quick, easy and effective.
