Painted With Love

I'm getting excited now! I'm lucky enough to be attending OnStage on Saturday in Auckland (I live in Christchurch).  OnStage is the Stampin' Up! twice yearly conference/convention for Demonstrators.  It is so much fun, and we'll get to see the new catalogue before anyone else! No sharing though...not until the middle of May.  But I am very excited. We also get spoilt while we're there, and I do love being spoilt!

I saw some cards today on Pinterest with the Painted with Love Designer Series Paper, and it inspired me to use it on my card tonight.  This card was inspired in particular by one that Terri Gaines has on her blog www.createwithterrigaines.com, but I changed it up just a little.

Don't you just love all the rich, bold colours in that paper? It doesn't photograph as rich as it looks in real life - if you haven't tried it yet, I really recommend it.  

I started here with a piece of Powder Pink cardstock, that was 14.9cm x 10.5cm, then I cut a piece of the Painted With Love Designer Series Paper that was 14.4cm x 10cm.  As an aside, this Designer Series Paper is really thick - it's almost more like card itself.  It lends itself very well to making 3D items such as boxes and bags.

Back to the task at hand!  Next I stamped the Stylised Birthday stamp on Powder Pink cardstock.  I used Calypso Coral as the ink.  Next I cut out the stamped image using the Stitched Framelits (if you look closely, you can see the detailing around the outside of the square - it looks like stitching (but it is oh so much simpler).  Then I cut a scalloped square out of Calypso Coral cardstock.  I used the Layering Squares for this.

I then adhered everything where I wanted it, and the rest is history! This is a card I would be proud to give anyone!

Myths and Magic - #Case the Catty172

I thought I'd have another play with the Magical Day stamp set - prompted by the theme for 'Case The Catty' challenge 172 which is the Myths and Magic suite.

This is my entry for this card - I was aiming for something gentle and whimsical, but I think I fell a little short!

I used the Magical Day stamp set - that's Very Vanilla I'm stamping on.  Measurements are below. I stamped in Memento Ink, which I think began to run a little with the liquid from the blender pens (and that's me being brutally honest as you can't see it in the photo!)

I tried to add a gentle green 'mist' to the right of my wizard, but it doesn't quite look like that.  I did the green in watercolour pencils, and then used the blender pen to blend it a little.  I then used Wink of Stella, which of course doesn't show up in the photo.

I'm definitely going to work some more with this set, and I really really need to practice more with the watercolour pencils.

That's it - a very plain card.  I love the Pacific Point cardstock I used as the mat to the Very Vanilla - it just leaps off the page, doesn't it?

Sure Do Love You

This is another set that I have sorely neglected.  While this set lends itself particularly towards Valentines Day, it's fair to say that there are plenty of other opportunities to give someone a card that has hearts on it.  

In case you haven't figured it out yet, I'm a 'less is more' kind of crafter.  Really it's probably because I don't have the skill required to make embellishments look good (!) but I tell myself I'm just not into them.

I'm also not particularly into pink, however I love love love the pinks that are in the In Colours 2017-2019.  I've used two of them on the above card.

I started with Basic Black, Tranquil Tide, Very Vanilla cardstocks (measurements below), and then used a stamp from the Heart Happiness stamp set to do the hearts background in Powder Pink.

Next I stamped on the large heart shape from the Sure Do Love You stamp set, in Tranquil Tide ink. I stamped the sentiment on a piece of scrap Very Vanilla cardstock, then fussy cut it out.  I'm not great at fussy cutting, so I need to get some practice in!

The sentiment is adhered to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals, to give it that little bit of pop.  I used a Pearl Basic Jewel on each side of the sentiment.  Then I decided that you can have an attitude of 'less is more' but sometimes you just have to go a little further.  I used the Metallic Sequins to just add that little extra (adhered with the Fine Tip Glue)

You could give this card to a friend, a family member, anyone you love. It would be great as a 'just because' card.

Hope Your Day is Magical - #TGIFC153 Bonus Week!

This is my entry into #TGIFC153 - Bonus Week - Anything Goes! That's the type of challenge I can rise to!

I'm embarrassed to admit that I received this stamp set 6 months ago at On Stage (which is a 6 monthly meeting of demonstrators that Stampin' Up! runs all around the world) - and this is the first time I've inked it up.  It won't be the last though!

Granted - I need to work on my colouring skills a little, but I really enjoyed making this card. I know you can't see it in the photo, but there is even some Wink of Stella on the card (which I have been forgetting to use for the longest time).

I showed my 11 and 8 year old sons this card, and they were rather excited - this is the type of card you can make for all our friends this year - thanks Mum!

I've decided to play with slightly larger borders for a while.  Sometimes I've been finding that my mats are so narrow you kind of miss the colour at all, while here the Tranquil Tide is quite noticeable.

There are really very few 'ingredients' in this card recipe. I started with Basic Black cardstock, cut to the usual New Zealand card size (measurements below). Then a mat of Tranquil Tide and the card front of Very Vanilla. All the stamping was done in Tuxedo Memento ink, and I used the Magical Day stamp set.

I then coloured the images in using the Water Colour Pencils, and used a blender pen to try and make it look more like a watercolour job.  As I said above, I do need to work on my colouring skills, but overall I like how it turned out.  And in case you're wondering, I used the Wink of Stella on the fire the dragon has breathed toward our fearless guard.

Both my sons have quite a few friends, so I guess I'm going to be getting quite a lot of practice with this kind of card over the next few months!
